Other than the checking scripts for the Lab being a little more smoothed out (which is a minor gripe), I would appreciate lab worksheets. I found them very useful to build the structure of the idea that the lab is attempting to make us demonstrate. |
2 |
Direct feedback required: "it is a syntax error"; "missing exit"; "loop was not completed"; "missing the option"; "output format is wrong", etc. |
3 |
I really liked the assignments that we were given, although I do miss those worksheets we got in the previous semester, they were very helpful. |
4 |
make a dedicated Linux course. Separate from windows. |
5 |
better explaination of the labs |
6 |
Help students. |

1 |
Practice quizzes for every topic on blackboard with a minimum number of attempts for every student. |
2 |
Complete checking scripts |
3 |
There isn't much that I can tihnk of. |
4 |
It couldn't |
5 |
Write the checking programs BEFORE the assignments are given to students. When we work on assignments for extended periods of time and then have the marking program change two days before it's due, it is extremely frustrating. Also, the course material should be taught and explained before the assignment is in progress. The professor should not be spending loads of time reviewing concepts from 1st semester when we should be learning new ones. |
6 |
More interactive labs that required more co operation and actually required the use of school facilities. All of the labs in this course could be done alone, at home, through a telnet connection to the course Linux server. |
7 |
better organizationn of lab assignment and lecture material. |
8 |
lectures and labs could coordinate and relate |
9 |
Some of the assignments were a little long and complicated. The fact that the marking script as often not finished until just before the deadline was also somewhat frustrating. |

No improvements required. |

I love his enthusiasm and his lab assignments. |
2 |
Willing to help |
3 |
Enthusiasm, liveliness. |
4 |
Among the best teachers I have ever had |
5 |
He is extrememly energetic and makes learning Linux fun. His assignments have an aspect to them that makes them easier for me to visualize doing in the field. |
6 |
Ian is a fountain of knowledge, and is happy to share it. |
7 |
enthusiasm for the course content and genuine concern for student sucess |
8 |
Ian is a great proffessor it too bad we did not have him as a lecture prof |
9 |
As always, Ian is very friendly and enthusiastic about Linux, and eager to help students. It was a pleasure to attend his labs. |
10 |
Very entertaining and helpful. |
1 |
Best professor I've ever met in terms of Teaching style, knowledge, and passion. |
2 |
Not sure |
3 |
Not much really. |
4 |
More teaching of the actual course not the lab |
5 |
Since Ian is not teaching our lectures, his assignments are very diffucult since most of the knowledge required to do the assignment hadn't been taught yet. Maybe coodinate better with the profs teaching the lectures so that the students are not scrambling as much. |
6 |
I think Ian needs to relax his stance on helping his students. Yes the answers may be in the notes somewhere, but if a student is asking for his help, they clearly are not getting the point from the notes. Not everyone learns on their own by reading notes, and he needs to adapt his teaching style to compensate for that. |
7 |
teach the lecture material instead of justinstructing the lab |
8 |
coordinate with the lecture class |
9 |
Be a little more sympathetic to students. Often when students have a question, Ian will assume that the student has not read everything before asking for help. |
