Name the file exactly as given below.abcd0001-headshot.jpg
IndexThe image you create in this section (and later upload) will be seen only by your instructor. The image will not be available in public.
Create or select a clear head shot picture of you. (If you don’t have a clear head-shot picture, ask a friend to take one for you.) The head shot should show your face clearly.
The image file must be a JPEG (JPG) format image. The image must be no smaller than 300 pixels in height or width and no larger than 1024 pixels in height or width. The file size should be less than 1 MB.

Preparation for uploading the head-shot image file to Brightspace:
Re-name the head-shot image file on your computer to be
abcd0001
-headshot.jpg
where the
text abcd0001
userid is replaced by your own eight-character
Algonquin College (Brightspace) userid.
The image file name must start with your own eight-character userid
and end with a four-character .jpg
extension. All the letters
in the name are lower-case. The image file name will be exactly 21
characters long.
There are no spaces in the image file name and no UPPER CASE letters.
There is only one correct way to spell the word headshot
.
The ninth character is a hyphen -
not an underscore _
.
For full marks, be accurate.
You will upload your
abcd0001
-headshot.jpg
head-shot image file to Brightspace later in this assignment.
abcd0001-assignment01.txt
IndexFor full marks, follow these directions exactly.
READ ALL THE WORDS! below before you start to answer any questions.
abcd0001-assignment01.txt
After reading the above web page, create and open a new plain text file
on your computer. This new file must have a 25-character file
name similar to
abcd0001
-assignment01.txt
but where the
text abcd0001
userid is replaced by your own eight-character
Algonquin College (Brightspace) userid.
There are no spaces in the file name and no UPPER CASE letters.
The characters after the word assignment
are the digits zero and
one, not a letter O
or a letter l
. There is only one correct
way to spell the word assignment
.
The ninth character is a hyphen -
not an underscore _
.
For full marks, be accurate.
In that new plain text file, answer the following three questions in your own words (no copy and paste):
(B-3a)
: Given that studies show that multi-tasking makes it
harder for your brain to remember what you have been doing (see
the readings), in what ways does your method of doing school
work and homework suffer from multi-tasking?
In the file, label the start of your answer to this question with
the exact six-character label (B-3a)
(including the parentheses)
in the text file. That label contains two letters and one digit.
(B-3b)
: How would it be possible for you to single-task your
schoolwork, to remember it better come exam time (and job
interview time)?
In the file, label the start of your answer to this question with
the exact six-character label (B-3b)
(including the parentheses)
in the text file. That label contains two letters and one digit.
(B-3c)
: Do you find that your brain has been trained to
“process information rather than understand or even remember it”?
(As an example: When given an assignment question, do you Google
for the answer every time, or do you remember the answer and
write down what you remember?)
In the file, label the start of your answer to this question with
the exact six-character label (B-3c)
(including the parentheses)
in the text file. That label contains two letters and one digit.
Answer these three questions in your own words; you may not copy and paste from anywhere else. (Do not write your answer in a word processor and then try to copy and paste it into the text file! The format will almost surely not be correct.)
There are no right answers, but no marks will be given to short answers that don’t address the question fully. (Hint: Single-sentence answers do not answer the question fully.)
Each of the three answers can be made up of long lines of text (with no word wrap), or each of the three answers can be made up of shorter lines of text (e.g. less than 80 columns wide is good) with blank lines between paragraphs.
Use the exact labels above to start each of the three answers.
Do not copy any of the essays or web page or any of this assignment question material into your file as part of your answer. Only include your three written answers, each beginning with the correct label text. Just your answers! Do not copy any of these questions.
For full marks, make sure you label the start each of the three answers exactly as shown above.
You will upload your
abcd0001
-assignment01.txt
plain text file to Brightspace later in this assignment.
Notes:
WARNING: If you use copy-and-paste from a word processor (e.g. MSWord) or enter text using a foreign language setting on your computer (e.g. Chinese), you are almost certain to include non-ASCII characters in your text file (such as Smart Quotes) that will lower your mark. Set your computer to use English and do not use a word processor to write the answers. Type directly into Notepad without copy-and-paste.
Please READ ALL THE WORDS
After completing the above assignment work, you should now have two (2) files with specific names ready for uploading to Brightspace:
Your own head-shot image file. This file must have a 21-character file name, as given above. Use this exact name for this assignment. (Other assignments will have different names.)
Your plain text file containing three answers that you wrote yourself without any copy-and-paste. This file must have a 25-character file name, as given above. Use the exact name for this assignment. (Other assignments will have different names.)
Make sure the two files have the correct names on your computer before you continue. Count the characters in the names to be sure!
Warning: The fake place-holder userid abcd0001
must never appear
in any file name you submit. Always replace it with your own userid.
Note: Other assignments will have different names to upload. Use the exact name given in the assignment.
Follow these directions to upload the files from your local computer to the correct Assignment area on Brightspace before the due date:
You can not delete your submitted files from the assignment, but you can revise your assignment files and upload the two files into the assignment again as many times as you like. I only grade the most recent assignment files submitted before the due date. (See the Course Introduction for details about late assignments.)
If you want to submit a second (or third…) copy of the assignment, make sure you always upload both files, even if you only update one of them. Always upload both files any time you submit.
The Submissions box will show each submission and the list of files you submitted in each submission. Always upload both files any time you submit.
Verify that Brightspace has received your submission:
If you want to claim that you uploaded an assignment and that Brightspace lost it, you will need this screen capture to prove that you actually uploaded all the files. (To date, Brightspace has never lost an uploaded file.)
You cannot delete an assignment attempt, but you can always upload a new version. I only mark the latest (newest) version that was submitted before the due date. (See the Course Introduction for details about late assignments.)
I do not accept any assignment submissions by EMail. Use only the Brightspace Upload and Submit method.
No marks are awarded for submitting under the wrong assignment number or for using the wrong file names. Use the exact lower-case names given above.
WARNING: Some inattentive students don’t read all these words. Don’t make that mistake! Be exact.
READ ALL THE WORDS. OH PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ ALL THE WORDS!
